About Clery Act Training Seminars (CATS)

Our in-person Clery Act Training Seminar (CATS) offers higher education professionals the chance to connect face-to-face with Clery experts and peers for a comprehensive review of the Clery Act. You’ll learn how to apply requirements in ways that meet your campus’ unique needs.

Interactive, engaging, and practical, CATS equips participants with the tools and strategies to strengthen compliance practices back on campus. CATS will teach participants about:
  • Stop Campus Hazing Act requirements including:
    • Counting & classifying hazing as a Clery Act crime statistic
    • Developing policies and procedures for reporting and investigating hazing incidents and offering prevention programs to educate about and prevent the occurrence of hazing
    • Creating a Campus Hazing Transparency Report (CHTR) sharing information about recognized student organizations found responsible for hazing
  • Identifying and training campus security authorities (CSAs)
  • Identifying Clery geography
  • Counting & classifying Clery Act crimes
  • Implementing prevention programs and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking (DVSAS)
  • Conducting campus disciplinary procedures for student or employee incidents  of (DVSAS) that also address Title IX requirements
  • Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
  • Composing an institution’s annual security report (ASR)
  • Developing, revising, or implementing policy and procedures to address any of the above
Through case studies, group activities, and facilitated dialogue, you’ll practice applying concepts while building connections with peers and instructors. A provided Workbook helps you capture notes, checklists, and strategies to implement back on campus.
While open to anyone interested in learning about the Clery Act, our CATS curriculum is designed for those responsible for oversight or implementation of compliance requirements.
CATS is available in three modalities: in-person, virtual, and self-paced. Learn more at clerycenter.org/cats.
