Now, more than ever, students and employees are expecting transparency in the way they receive communications regarding safety concerns on college and university campuses. Campuses are required under the Clery Act to have policies and procedures in place to alert their communities to emergencies and continuing threats. Timely Warnings have been a way for institutions to notify their communities of serious and continuing threats posed by the occurrence of Clery Act crimes in the institution’s Clery geography. Requirements for Emergency Notifications were added to the Clery Act in 2008 after recognizing a critical need for institutions to have a clear policy and procedures for how they would notify their communities of a dangerous or emergency situation. 

In this webinar we will review the Clery Act requirements for Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications, focusing on the separate and distinct requirements of these two types of ongoing disclosures. Scenarios will be presented to allow participants an opportunity to practice decision-making skills related to these requirements.
