Description:

Our Virtual Clery Act Training Seminar is a hybrid course delivering live, online instruction in a virtual format integrating interactive elements, such as real-time discussions and case studies, with engaging online content. Taking place over four live sessions, VCATS delivers our comprehensive training curriculum without the need for travel.

Through breakout sessions, group discussions, activities, and case study analysis, participants will have the opportunity to virtually network with peer professionals and Clery Center instructors while applying concepts taught in real time.

The virtual format provides many opportunities and methods for participants to test their own skills and interact with each other through chats and breakout room discussions. Our instructors are also available to answer questions and work through concepts during the live sessions and privately during virtual office hours. A provided Workbook will help participants document their notes and learning throughout the training and includes checklists to put into practice when back to their day to day work.

Interactive, engaging, and practical, our virtual Clery Act Training Seminars equip participants with the tools and strategies necessary to examine and improve practices back on campus. VCATS will teach participants about:

  • Stop Campus Hazing Act requirements including:
    • Counting & classifying hazing as a Clery Act crime statistic
    • Developing policies and procedures for reporting and investigating hazing incidents and offering prevention programs to educate about and prevent the occurrence of hazing
    • Creating a Campus Transparency Report sharing information about recognized student organizations round responsible for hazing
  • Identifying and training campus security authorities (CSAs)
  • Identifying Clery geography
  • Counting & classifying Clery Act crimes
  • Composing an institution’s annual security report (ASR)
  • Designing & implementing prevention and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Conducting campus disciplinary procedures for student or employee cases of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
  • Developing, revising, or implementing policy and procedures to address any of the above

While anyone with an interest or desire in learning more about the totality of the Clery Act is welcome at all Clery Center trainings, our CATS curriculum is specifically designed for those with responsibility for oversight of Clery Act compliance and/or implementing its requirements.

CATS is available in three modalities: in-person, virtual, and self-paced. Learn more at clerycenter.org/cats.
